On Thursday, Feb. 22, in Nashville, Tenn., 45th President of the United States Donald J. Trump announced his support for protecting AM radio in cars.

“I will protect the content that is pro-God,” Trump said. “To that end, at the request of the NRB, I will do my part to protect AM radio in our cars.”

Trump addressed the audience of religious broadcasters at the 2024 National Religious Broadcasters (NRB) International Christian Media Convention in Nashville, Tenn., as part of the NRB Presidential Forum, a special election-year event where all 2024 presidential candidates were invited to deliver remarks to the broadcasting convention.

In 2023, after several leading automakers moved to strip new electric vehicle models of AM radio capabilities, industry groups including the NRB launched efforts to educate policymakers on the value of AM radio as both a resilient emergency management communications system and a key platform for diverse content genres.

In his remarks to NRB, Trump told broadcasters that Christian broadcasting is “under siege” and affirmed that he will protect “pro-God context and content” on the airwaves.

With more than 120 AM stations as NRB members, hundreds of AM stations affiliated with NRB member organizations, and a community of faith-driven broadcasters that reaches hundreds of millions of listeners, viewers, and readers every month, NRB is a historic champion of AM radio and supports the passage of the AM for Every Vehicle Act in the House and the Senate.
