Statement of NRB President & CEO on Net Neutrality Vote

WASHINGTON, D.C. (NRB) — NRB President & CEO Troy A. Miller has issued a statement on the FCC’s vote to adopt “net neutrality” regulations.

The following statement is attributable to Troy A. Miller, NRB President & CEO:

We are disappointed by the FCC’s vote to reinstate net neutrality rules. This move constitutes a drastic and excessive expansion of federal regulatory reach, while failing to address real threats of viewpoint discrimination by edge providers.

“Open internet” protocols have no meaningful benefits for free speech and access to information. They have little to do with the relationship between internet service providers (ISP) and consumers, but they do give Big Tech behemoths an advantage over ISPs and harm innovation and investment in a competitive U.S. industry.

In 2020, Chair Rosenworcel herself warned against overly empowering the government to control the internet, concerns which she has since discarded. Ironically, efforts to enhance the ISP regulatory regime, whether through “net neutrality” or attempts to eradicate so-called “digital discrimination” through digital dictatorship, have only accelerated under her leadership.

We believe that the value of a prudent and restrained regulatory approach does not change from administration to administration and disapprove of the FCC’s actions today.
