Statement of NRB President & CEO on National Day of Prayer

WASHINGTON, D.C. (NRB) — NRB President & CEO Troy A. Miller has issued a statement on the National Day of Prayer.

The following statement is attributable to Troy A. Miller, NRB President & CEO:

Seeking God’s will through prayer is primary to our efforts in every domain of life. Today, Americans will intercede with one voice for the nation’s spiritual welfare as we observe the National Day of Prayer.

“Please join me in asking God to light the way forward for the American church, family, education system, business community, military, government, and the media as we yield our paths to Him.”

Miller will participate in the National Day of Prayer Congressional National Observance taking place in the nation’s Capital today. The National Day of Prayer (NDP) Task Force will broadcast its 73rd annual observance from the Capitol Visitor’s Center Auditorium in Washington, D.C., as well as at thousands of affiliated events around the nation, in all 50 states and two U.S. territories. The program will air at 8:00 p.m. ET on Thursday, May 2. View the livestream here.

Since 1952, the National Day of Prayer has been observed and celebrated annually, after Congress designated a joint resolution that President Harry Truman signed into law stating that citizens of America are “to turn to God in prayer and meditation.” The first National Day of Prayer observance in 1983 took place at Constitution Hall in Washington, D.C., and featured Vice President George Bush and Dr. Lloyd Ogilvie as speakers. After President Ronald Reagan set aside the first Thursday of May as the annual observance in 1988, every president since then has issued a proclamation encouraging the people of the nation to come together in prayer.
