Senator Roger Wicker Honored with NRB’s 2022 First Freedoms Award

WASHINGTON, D.C. (NRB) – National Religious Broadcasters presented its 2022 First Freedoms Award to U.S. Senator Roger Wicker (R-Miss.) on Monday, September 19, during the NRB Capitol Hill Media Summit in Washington, D.C.

“Senator Wicker, throughout your lifetime, you have supported traditional family values, the sanctity of life, and our First Amendment freedoms,” NRB President & CEO Troy A. Miller said. “It is our great honor to present you with NRB’s First Freedoms Award.”

NRB annually presents its First Freedoms Award to a stalwart defender of religious liberty at its annual gathering of the NRB President’s Council.

“I am honored to say that we are fellow North Mississippians who have known each other a long time,” said American Family Radio president and longtime NRB member Tim Wildmon in a letter of congratulations presented at the event. “Senator Wicker, you have always stood for religious freedom. I know I can always count on you to be vigilant against those who try to restrict or take away the liberty our forefathers have fought so hard to defend through the years.”

In his remarks, Wicker referenced Matthew 5:14-16, from the Sermon on the Mount, noting the line “A city set on a hill cannot be hidden.” Wicker emphasized the historic significance of Christian media in helping to bring about policy change upholding the sanctity of life, and thanked Christian broadcasters for letting the light of the Christian message shine to the culture.

Past award recipients include former Sen. Sam Brownback (R-Kan.), Alliance Defending Freedom Founder Alan Sears, Rep. Greg Walden (R-Ore.), former Rep. J. Randy Forbes (R-Va.), former Rep. Frank Wolf (R-Va.), Sen. Roy Blunt (R-Mo.), former Atlanta Fire Chief Kelvin Cochran, Sen. James Lankford (R-Okla.), Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.), Senator Ted Cruz (R-Texas), and Senator Josh Hawley (R-Mo).
