Reflecting on the Calling of Christian Communicators

A word of encouragement at Christmas from NRB President & CEO Troy A. Miller.

Christmas, the celebration of the birth of Christ, is almost upon us. During the Advent season, we reflect on John 3:16, “For God so loved the world, that He gave His only Son…” It is also a time that reminds us that we live in a world that needs saving. We don’t need to look far to see the world’s pain, suffering, despair, and hopelessness. Wars continue to wage across the globe, people are oppressed under cruel dictatorships, and radical movements are trying to redefine the foundations of our society: marriage and the family. While we pray for an end to these terrible adversities, they also remind us why God has called us to ministry. The world needs Christmas. It requires the hope that the birth of Christ brings, and for that, it needs to hear the Gospel.

Christians have been carrying the Gospel around the world since the Church was birthed over 2000 years ago. First by foot, then by airwaves, and now on the digital highways that connect us all. The work of Christian communicators is crucial in this age of overwhelming noise and distractions. Your calling is to proclaim God’s truth, lift and build up God’s people, feed and clothe the poor, minister to the imprisoned, provide wholesome, moral entertainment, and, most of all, proclaim the message of the Gospel. The world desperately needs Christian communicators.

Whatever ministry God has called you to, take heart that He has you right where He needs you most. I’m sure you can look back over this past year and recall the lives your ministries have impacted in your communities, the people you have brought hope to, the lives you have saved, and the many who have been fed. Children will have gifts to open, and families will have food and warm clothes to wear because your ministry is living out the Gospel.

The team at NRB is praying that God will bless your ministry and expand your audience for His glory. We wish you a Merry Christmas and a happy and blessed New Year.
