The mainstreaming of harmful ideology, disregard for student safety, and other issues in public schools have given American families great cause for concern—yet those who speak out often find themselves attacked and maligned. It has never been more important for parents and teachers to stand together and speak up for the rights and protection of our nation’s children. Join Alliance Defending Freedom (ADF) attorneys and clients on Wednesday, March 9, to learn about cases where courageous individuals are taking a stand for the wellbeing of children and students. Come learn how one voice can make a difference and how ADF is standing alongside parents and teachers to defend free speech and parental rights.
The panel will be moderated by Ryan Bangert. Ryan serves as senior counsel and vice president for legal strategy at Alliance Defending Freedom. He oversees the Center for Academic Freedom, the Conscience Team, and the regulatory litigation team, and assists ADF leadership with strategic initiatives.
This forum will feature:
Monica Gill, history teacher at Loudoun County High School. Monica has been a teacher for 27 years. She recently, along with two other teachers, challenged Policy 8040 in a lawsuit. Policy 8040 requires teachers to use pronouns that are inconsistent with a student’s biological sex. Monica is joined in this lawsuit by two other Loudoun County teachers, Tanner Cross and Kimberly Wright. These three teachers have asked the court to halt enforcement of this policy while the case continues in court. Monica has also written and spoken about academic issues, including Critical Race Theory, in outlets including The Federalist and FOX News.
Matt and Marie Mierzejewski, parents of students in Albemarle School District. Matt and Marie Mierzejewski are parents of three children, including a high school student in Albemarle County, Virginia. They have challenged the school district’s racist policies after their oldest child was placed in a pilot program where students were instructed to ascribe to racist stereotypes and pressured to affirm critical race theory and, if they didn’t, would be labeled racists.
Kate Anderson, Senior Counsel and Director of Center for Parental Rights at Alliance Defending Freedom. Since joining ADF in 2015, Kate has worked to protect conscience rights for individuals facing government punishment, freedom for women’s shelters to operate according to their missions, and for the recognition and protection of parental rights. Her work helps guarantee that parents will not be excluded from decisions made by school officials and that parents can continue to direct the upbringing of their children.
This forum is presented by Alliance Defending Freedom.
