On Wednesday, May 24, presidents and leaders of NRB member organizations met at the 2023 NRB International Christian Media Convention to attend the invitation-only Media Leadership Dinner.
The Media Leadership Dinner featured special guest speakers Senator Josh Hawley (R-Mo.) and Tyler O’Neil, Managing Editor at The Daily Signal.
Christian leaders and statesmen play a vital role in defending religious liberty and freedom of speech amidst a changing modern media landscape. NRB leaders gathered at this signature VIP event to hear from two influential faith figures on matters affecting the media today. Hawley and O’Neil’s remarks captured key interest areas for Christian media leaders, focusing on standing firm in an environment that threatens and intimidates Christian communicators and the importance of professing Christ first and foremost.
O’Neil reflected on the reactions he has received to his own work reporting on cultural issues, including a book O’Neil wrote critiquing the corrupt Southern Poverty Law Center. O’Neil warned that “Christians should be prepared to face attacks when we speak out for what we believe in.”
Hawley delivered a rousing challenge to Christian communicators to proclaim their faith in the public square.
“I know we’re told we’re not supposed to talk about the Gospel in public. We’re not supposed to talk about God in politics. We’re not supposed to talk about the Bible,” Hawley said. “But I will just say to you that I am not ashamed of the Gospel, for it is the power of God unto salvation for all who believe and it is the power that has shaped this nation from our nation’s very foundations.”
Hawley’s latest book “Manhood: The Masculine Virtues America Needs,” released May 2023, invites men to embrace the God-given responsibilities of marriage, fatherhood, and citizenship to help preserve a future of faith and freedom.
The 2023 Media Leadership Dinner was sponsored by Christian Healthcare Ministries and Convention of States Action. The NRB International Christian Media Convention is the premiere networking event for Christian communicators and serves as a national and global point of connection for Christian media professionals.
