NRB 2025 Convention Advances Key Policy Initiatives

NRB | March 7, 2025 | Advocacy

The NRB 2025 International Christian Media Convention, which had nearly 6,000 attendees, promoted the advancement of several key policy initiatives within the Christian media landscape. From approving issue-driven board resolutions, to holding forward-thinking policy forums, to supporting initiatives at press conferences, year after year, the NRB Convention provides a close look at the intersection of politics and broadcasting, offering attendees valuable opportunities to engage with issues that affect Christian broadcasters.

Of note, the American Christian Leaders for Israel (ACLI) network held a press conference at the NRB Convention, announcing the signing of a resolution reaffirming the Jewish people’s right to the biblical heartland of Israel as well as the recognition of the region as “Judea and Samaria.”

“At the National Religious Broadcasters Association, we renew our efforts to strengthen Christian support for Israel and combat antisemitism worldwide,” said Troy A. Miller, president & CEO of NRB. “We recognize the undeniable biblical and historical ties of the Jewish people to this land and have consistently brought this issue to the attention of our members, elected officials, the media, and corporate America. We reaffirm our commitment to standing with Israel against any challenge to its rightful sovereignty.”

The Convention’s opening session featured video messages to the attendees by Texas Governor Greg Abbott and Texas Senator Ted Cruz.

“We’re living in a time where Christian viewpoints are not as easy to find in mainstream media,” Governor Abbott said. “That’s why the mission of the National Religious Broadcasters is more important now than ever before. Christian evangelists need legal protection and fellowship to effectively build God’s Kingdom. Your voices are so much more powerful when they are joined together.”

“I want to thank each of you for your commitment to sharing the Gospel and standing for religious liberty,” Cruz remarked. “You are on the frontlines, pushing back against censorship, standing firm in your faith, and providing hope. … I’m honored to stand with you in defending religious liberty, protecting free speech, and ensuring that Christian media continues to thrive.”

The NRB Convention also hosted several forums and workshops addressing key policy issues ranging from christian participation in public life, to AI, to understanding the censorship industrial complex. Here are two highlights:

  • Broadcast Regulatory Outlook with a Republican-Controlled FCC
Veteran communications attorneys Joseph Chautin III, Managing Partner at Hardy, Carey, Chautin & Balkin, LLP, and David Oxenford, Partner at Wilkinson Barker Knauer, LLP, led a workshop panel discussion looking at how the regulatory landscape could change with a 3-2 Republican majority and a republican-appointed Chairman.
  • NRB Legal Forum: What to Expect in the Next Four Years
NRB’s General Counsel, Mike Farris, led a discussion with the leaders of America’s top Christian legal organizations to explore the likely challenges and opportunities in the coming four years. The forum featured Senior Vice President at Alliance Defending Freedom (ADF) Ryan Bangert, President at Pacific Justice Institute Brad Dacus, President & CEO at First Liberty Institute Kelly J. Shackelford, and Founder & Chairman at Liberty Counsel Mathew D. Staver, Esq.

On Monday, February 24, the NRB Board of Directors announced nine formal resolutions for 2025. Each year, NRB’s Board of Directors approves a new slate of resolutions expressing the association’s support or opposition to domestic legislation, cultural movements, judicial decisions, geopolitical or international issues, and events of particular importance to NRB members.

The 2025 resolutions are:

  • Addressing Corporate Threats to Free Speech—NRB supports a reexamination of S. 230 in light of its original intent and urges that all possible methods be used to address consumer harms and possible violations of the law caused by collusive corporate action.
  • Applying Wisdom in Use of Artificial Intelligence and Emerging Technology, 2025—NRB urges Christians to exercise responsibility and wisdom in utilizing AI and other emerging technologies, to acknowledge the limitations of technological enhancements and interventions, and to oppose efforts to use AI technology for anti-human and immoral purposes.
  • Condemning Global Antisemitism—NRB urges Christians to vocally condemn the escalating hostility toward the Jewish people and the nation of Israel, to reject all ideologies of hatred and violent animus, and to advocate peaceful discourse.
  • Endorsing Family-First Principles in Media—NRB calls on state and Federal lawmakers and technology developers to examine full-stack approaches to improving the safety of children online, such as device-level age verification, improving the accuracy of app store ratings, creating better child-safety functionality for shared devices, and more. NRB calls on all Christian communicators, developers, and entrepreneurs to create and innovate safe, robust, and enriching alternatives, including devices, apps, and entertainment, that offer families and youth a positive, safe, and edifying experience online.
  • Maintaining Access for Christian Broadcasters in the Communications Marketplace—NRB recommits to collaboration and engagement with the presidential administration, the 119th Congress, other policymakers, and private-sector industry leaders to represent the perspective of religious broadcasters and develop both governmental and private sector solutions to help secure a future of robust access to the communications marketplace for faith-driven communicators.
  • Opposing Weaponization of the Federal Government, 2025—NRB opposes all weaponization of the federal government to strike down and silence dissenting viewpoints, maintaining that civil rights liability for constitutional violations should be strictly enforced against any federal government agency that initiates action to deny free speech and equal protection.
  • Prayer for U.S. President and 119th Congress—NRB calls on all Christians to commit to both private and public prayer for President Donald J. Trump, Vice President J.D. Vance, Supreme Court Justices, the members of the Cabinet, the U.S. House of Representatives, the U.S. Senate, and other federal authorities and elected leaders, and for the spiritual welfare of the nation.
  • Standing with Persecuted Armenian Christians and Persecuted Christians Throughout the World—NRB expresses solidarity with the persecuted Christians in Armenia and throughout the world, wherever our brothers and sisters are persecuted for their identification with Jesus Christ.
  • Urging Peace in the Middle East and the Return of Hostages—NRB calls for the immediate release of the hostages taken by Hamas and calls on all Christians to pray for the spiritual and physical welfare of all in the region and embrace a vision of peace for the Middle East and an end to deadly warfare.
