U.S. Attorney General William Barr Lauds Christian Media at NRB 2020 Convention

William BarrNASHVILLE, Tennessee (NRB) – U.S. Attorney General William Barr spoke at the NRB 2020 Christian Media Convention in Nashville, Tennessee, on February 26, and commended members of the Christian media for their role in countering the effort to drive religion – “long an essential pillar of our society” – from the public square.

“Thank God we have the National Religious Broadcasters (NRB) to counter that effort,” he said. “Since its creation in 1944, it has reached, and continues to reach, people from all backgrounds on a variety of platforms.”

NRB General Counsel Craig Parshall, who welcomed Barr to the stage for the afternoon forum, said, “Our Attorney General William Barr is a living answer to the question posed to Benjamin Franklin when our Founder’s swung open the doors from the Constitutional Convention.”

“Franklin was asked what kind of government had been decided,” Parshall said. “‘A Republic,’ he quipped, ‘if we can keep it.’ Through his stellar devotion to the rule of law, General Barr reminded us how faith and freedom are both essentials for the future of our constitutional Republic. His message was a tour de force exposition on American history, moral governance, and individual liberty.”

During his address to the gathering of Christian media and ministries professionals, Barr recognized how NRB’s members ”courageously affirm that entertainment and moral education are not mutually exclusive.” NRB has shown that media can safeguard faith as well as help “maintain our republican experiment in self-governance,” Barr said. “As such, NRB’s members offer an alternative and essential platform for believers and non-believers alike. The United States’ greatest days lie ahead, Barr said, “but only if we can alter our course and pay heed to the lessons of the past.”.
