NRB President: ‘Statesmanship Must Prevail’ by Confirming Kavanaugh

WASHINGTON (NRB) – As the U.S. Senate proceeds this week to a vote to confirm Judge Brett Kavanaugh to the United States Supreme Court, Dr. Jerry A. Johnson, president & CEO of National Religious Broadcasters, issued the following statement:

“It is now long past time for the United States Senate to fulfill its constitutional duty of advice and consent with regard to the nomination of Judge Brett Kavanaugh to the U.S. Supreme Court. The Left’s disgraceful character assassination in service of raw power politics must be put to a stop; it’s long past time for statesmanship to prevail. Judge Kavanaugh should be confirmed immediately.

“I thank President Trump for nominating Judge Kavanaugh, and I applaud Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell and Judiciary Committee Chairman Chuck Grassley for leading wisely, being fair to all, and advancing this nomination. While some senators have turned this constitutional process into a farcical circus, their irresponsible attacks on Judge Kavanaugh’s character remind Americans once again never to take for granted our nation’s founding principles in pursuit of a free, orderly, and just society.

“Judge Kavanaugh has outstanding credentials and a clear track record of honoring the U.S. Constitution, including our cherished freedoms enshrined in the Bill of Rights. Allies of the radical Left may be ready to uproot the wisely established and bravely defended underpinnings of our Republic, but I believe Judge Kavanaugh will dedicate himself to fairly ensuring the liberties and due process rights of everyone – regardless of race, ethnicity, gender, creed, or any other characteristic. He will also be a check to ensure laws and regulations stay within constitutional bounds. I base this belief on the historic amount of hard evidence supplied to the Senate as it has attempted to do its duty.

“I eagerly anticipate Judge Kavanaugh being sworn-in as the next associate justice of the Supreme Court."

On September 26, Johnson presented NRB’s prestigious Faith & Freedom Award to Sen. McConnell, noting the honor was due, in part, to the Senate majority leader’s “principled and strategic leadership” in the confirmation of Justice Neil Gorsuch. The award was presented during the Capitol Hill Media Summit, which annually brings to Washington NRB leaders who are members of the President’s Council.
