WCTL-FM Receives NRB Milestone Award

WCTLNASHVILLE (NRB) – WCTL-FM received an NRB Milestone Award on Friday, March 2, during the Closing Gala at Proclaim 18, the NRB International Christian Media Convention in Nashville, Tennessee.

NRB’s Milestone Awards are presented each year at the association’s annual Convention to pioneers in Christian communications who have demonstrated exemplary service in the industry for five decades or longer. WCTL celebrated 50 years of ministry to northwest Pennsylvania and the tristate area in October 2017.

“To be recognized by the prestigious National Religious Broadcasters is quite an honor and very humbling,” said Adam Q. Frase, WCTL's general manager. “We accept this on behalf of all the many men and women who worked to keep WCTL on the air for five decades, and we give praise to God for His sustaining hand on this ministry.”

On October 3, 1967, George Smith took over operations of 106.3 FM, then known as WBVB. As the new station in Erie, Pennsylvania, began to take shape, it steadily increased in power and capacity so that by 1972, the owner’s note was paid off, the signal was 3,000 watts, and the call letters were changed to the now familiar WCTL.

The NRB Milestone Award was one of 26 awards that were presented during Proclaim 18, which took place February 27-March 2, 2018, at the Gaylord Opryland Resort & Convention Center in Nashville, Tennessee. For the complete list of 2018 award recipients, click here.
