NRB President Joins SBC President in Calling for Prayer to Awaken America

Awaken AmericaOn June 14, the Southern Baptist Convention (SBC) will spend the entire evening session of its annual meeting praying for pastors and spiritual leaders in America, for the churches in America, for the nation, and for the world.

“There, perhaps, has never been a time in our generation when we have needed to pray more than now,” noted SBC President Ronnie Floyd, Senior Pastor of Cross Church in Northwest Arkansas and NRB member.

Last year, Floyd and 11 other pastors opened the SBC annual gathering with an "epic night of prayer." At the Greater Columbus Convention Center in Ohio’s capital city, approximately 7,000 Southern Baptists gathered to call out to God for the next Great Awakening.

According to Floyd, the event marked the first time in the modern history of the SBC that an entire session of the denomination’s annual meeting was given to prayer. This year will mark the second.

“Due to the work of God among us last year, His present work today, the critical need of the hour in America, the state of our churches, the needs of our pastors, the status of our evangelism or lack of it, and the exponential lostness of the world while we are bringing home hundreds of our missionaries … it is time to pray,” Floyd shared in a recent blog post.

Floyd is calling on Southern Baptists to pour into St. Louis by the thousands for the historic night of prayer. Joining him in the call is NRB President & CEO Dr. Jerry A. Johnson.

"I urge all NRB members and friends to join Southern Baptists in this prayer focus for spiritual leaders, for churches, and for great awakening in our nation,” Dr. Johnson proclaimed. “There is an urgent need for desperate prayer at this time. May our Lord send His Spirit to do what we cannot do for ourselves. May God revive our pastors, our churches, and our country."

With more than 15.7 million members in more than 51,094 churches nationwide, the Southern Baptist Convention is America’s largest Protestant denomination. The 2016 SBC Annual Meeting will be held June 14-15 at America’s Center in St. Louis. The evening prayer session will be streamed live on the web at www.sbc.net.
