This past Sunday, evangelist Andrew Palau shared the Gospel at three church services at Haidan Church, the largest church in Beijing, with overflowing crowds and many responses to the Good News.
Between all three services, the Luis Palau Association (LPA) estimated that there were approximately 3,200 in attendance and approximately 200 decisions for Christ.
“Andrew shared a Christmas message which focused on the symbol of the Star and the light of Christ,” reported LPA Director of Festivals Tim Innes. “[The church’s pastor] commented that it was the most effective message yet in terms of sharing the good news wrapped together with the Christmas story and Andrew’s testimony.”
Following each service, the Palau team distributed copies of What is Christmas? – an evangelistic book in both English and Chinese that presents the significance of the birth and story of Christ. Many extra copies were given to those who wanted to get them for family members and friends.
The next day, Palau met with the State Administration of Religious Affairs (SARA) – the branch of the government in China overseeing churches and religious practice. In addition, he met with a local publishing group to discuss further evangelistic book opportunities.
"We were received by Vice Minister Jiang and the leadership of SARA,” reported Innes. “This was a great reunion with our friends. Minister Jiang was so happy that we are expanding our work into Harbin this year and felt that it was another great step forward in our work. The leaders have so much respect for Luis [Palau]. They see us as long term friends who love China and really have a genuine heart to bless the nation."
During his week in China, Andrew Palau also met with the China Christian Council, an umbrella organization and network for all Christian churches in China; spoke in Chongyi Church in Hangzhou, which is the largest church in China; and spoke at Hallelujah Church in Harbin, a northern province of China.
Since 2013, LPA has prayerfully cultivated an ongoing long-term vision for a Christmas tour every year using What is Christmas? In 2012 and 2013, Palau shared the Christmas message at churches in Beijing and Huangzhou, establishing deep relationships with the pastors and churches. This year marked Palau’s first time sharing the Good News in Northern China.
By the end of the week, the LPA team will have distributed more than 12,000 copies of What is Christmas?
