Member Spotlight: KGLE

Jim McBrideKGLE AM 590 (Glendive, MT) originally signed on the air on August 22, 1962, under the guidance of Harold Erickson, with much support and effort from area Christians. The station operated as a part of the Christian Enterprise Network until the fall of 1992 at which time the network felt it could no longer operate the station and decided to either sell KGLE to a local listener group or allow it to “go dark” at the end of October if a local buyer was not found.

It was under this motivation that area listeners gathered to demonstrate their enthusiastic support for keeping KGLE on the air, broadcasting Good News across Eastern Montana and Western North Dakota. Friends of Christian Radio, Inc. was quickly organized at that time.

Unique fund raising efforts, including a grain convoy, helped to raise the money for the purchase price and the station’s initial operation under the auspices of FCR. The Lord’s leading and blessing was evident during this time and sufficient funds were raised ahead of the designated deadline.

Friends of Christian Radio officially assumed ownership of KGLE on Feb. 1, 1993. Since that time the Lord has blessed the efforts of FCR and the station’s listeners have faithfully supported the ministry with their prayers and gifts. KGLE’s programming includes a variety of Christian music and teaching programs, along with news, weather and agricultural reports. Special programming for children is also included in the schedule.

KGLE celebrates 50 years of broadcasting in 2012, giving God the glory for all that has been accomplished during this time. The station’s mission has remained the same over these years: to be a tool in the hand of the Lord Jesus to encourage and instruct God’s people and to challenge others to come to faith in Christ. As the Lord enables, KGLE will continue to broadcast the life-giving message of our risen Savior across the Northern Plains and beyond until He returns.

Since Glendive, MT, is strategically located in the Bakken oil formation, KGLE’s potential audience has increased quite dramatically over the past couple of years with the influx of oil field workers and their families. Prayers are welcomed for the Lord’s direction in order to effectively reach and impact this new segment of the region’s population with the Gospel message.
