Janet Parshall Debates “Jesus” Film

Janet ParshallJanet Parshall, nationally syndicated radio talk show host on the Moody radio network, recently journeyed to Silver Spring, MD, where she participated in a panel discussion with Hollywood actor/director Matthew Modine on three controversial short-subject films he has directed and in which he appears. Modine will soon be seen in a supporting role in the upcoming Batman movie, Dark Knight Rises. The lively panel discussion that followed the screening touched on faith issues, including the question raised in the short film, “Jesus was a Commie,” as to whether Christianity is compatible with socialism, a proposition soundly refuted by Parshall. The event, held at the American Film Institute, also included panelists Laura Murphy, the Director of the ACLU’s Washington Legislative Office, and Bob Edgar, former Democrat congressman and head of the National Council of Churches and current president of the liberal policy group Common Cause. The event was moderated by Barry Lynn, Executive Director of Americans United for Separation of Church and State, and was co-sponsored by his organization and the Hollywood-based Creative Coalition.
