Ghana President Welcomes Franklin Graham at ‘Ghana Jesus Festival’

John Evans Atta MillsEvangelist and missionary Franklin Graham, President & CEO of the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association, received a warm welcome by Ghana President John Evans Atta Mills at the two-night BGEA event, "Ghana Jesus Festival," held at a stadium in Accra.

"We need the Word of God," said Mills, an outspoken Christian. "It is my hope and prayer that the message [Franklin Graham] gives us will fall on fertile soil." According to the Presidency’s Director of Communications Koku Anyidoho, Mills is "mindful of God's role in ensuring a peaceful country. The president has always made it public and is preparedness [sic] to allow God to be in control in an election and he continues to make sure that God plays a central role in whatever we are doing as a nation."

On the first night, Graham’s Gospel message centered on the prodigal son was heard by more than 10,000 Ghanaians, and hundreds flooded the stage area during Graham’s invitation to give their heart to Jesus Christ. On the second night, Graham preached Luke 19, the story of Zacchaeus, with several thousand out of a crowd of more than 16,000 making the decision to follow Christ.

Franklin GrahamBGEA exists to spread the Gospel of Jesus Christ by every effective means available. Along with its well-known Crusade-style evangelism—first through BGEA founder Billy Graham and now through events held by evangelists Franklin Graham and Will Graham—the ministry in recent years has developed several unique ways of reaching people around the world, right where they are. These include large-scale festivals; Dare to Be a Daniel, a youth evangelism training project; My Hope World Evangelism Through Television; the Billy Graham Rapid Response Team of crisis-trained chaplains; and many others through print, television, telephone, radio, and the Internet.
