This week, using a complicated legislative procedure known as budget reconciliation, Senate Republicans successfully advanced a bill that would in large part pull government funds away from abortion providers like Planned Parenthood, as well as repeal much of “Obamacare.” Following the bill’s likely passage in the House of Representatives, it will move to the desk of President Obama. While the President will almost certainly veto the legislation, many Members of Congress are resolute in their intent to act on these subjects. On the Senate Floor, specifically regarding the language de-funding abortion providers, Senator James Lankford (R-OK) stated:
This is not some attack on women's health. This is millions of voices rising up around the nation and saying we're better than this as a nation….The most innocent and vulnerable in our society need our protection. Just because they're small and just because you can't see them doesn't mean they're not valuable and they can be thrown away. These are children we're talking about. Little girls, little boys. And we think it's important that someone in this country speaks out for them.
Notably, following the release of the horrific videos exposing Planned Parenthood this summer, NRB President & CEO Dr. Jerry A. Johnson sent a letter to the association’s members encouraging them to speak out for the federal de-funding of the abortion giant. “Let’s stand together this weekend and in the days ahead to make sure listeners, viewers, and congregations know that #PPSellsBabyParts and to urge Congress to #DefundPP,” he stated.
