Activities at the FCC, including the net neutrality proceeding and FCC process reform, were topics of interest at committee hearings across Capitol Hill this week. The FCC Chairman himself testified before the House Small Business Committee. Committee Chairman Sam Graves (R-MO) wished to conduct oversight over the FCC, particularly in light of the needs of small businesses and rural America.
Chairman Graves stated, “American small businesses depend more than ever on communications, and advances in technology have opened doors to distant marketplaces from rural America.” He emphasized the importance of avoiding government regulations that can stifle innovation.
FCC Chairman Tom Wheeler highlighted his own entrepreneurial background and asserted, “Overarching these values is the belief that competition is superior to regulation, and competition is the Commission’s most effective tool for driving innovation, investment, and consumer and economic benefits.”
