Christ Is A Game Changer

Miles McPhersonThe San Diego Chargers missed the playoffs this year, despite an 8-8 season and their rank in a three-way tie for first place in the AFC West. But instead of focusing on football stats, former Chargers defensive back Miles McPherson is engaged in a whole new game: winning souls for Christ. McPherson is the Senior Pastor at Rock Church in San Diego, CA, and he will give a Monday evening keynote address at NRB 2012.

“We are greatly looking forward to having Miles speak at NRB 2012,” said Dr. Frank Wright, NRB President and CEO. “I believe our attendees will be challenged and inspired by his message.”

Originally drafted by the Los Angeles Rams, McPherson was cut and went to the San Diego Chargers as a defensive back. Then, his life “began to spiral out of control.” After two years in the NFL, McPherson found himself battling a drug problem and living an immoral lifestyle. One day, his teammate Sherman Smith (who is now an NFL coach) asked him: “If you were to die right now, would you go to heaven?”

It took McPherson six months to answer that question. But his answer was Christ, and the change in his life was “dramatic and instant.” McPherson began to work as a Bible teacher, youth pastor, and speaker – and never looked back. In 1991 he received his Master’s of Divinity degree from Azusa Pacific University (APU).

Miles McPherson is comfortable no matter where God puts him. He’s shared the stage with a former U.S. President, addressed prison yards full of inmates, and appeared on well-known prime time programs like Larry King Live and The O’Reilly Factor. God has given him the gift of communication, and he uses it wherever he’s placed, with a trademark style that is bold, yet down-to-earth.

Today, he gives five Sunday sermons each week at Rock Church, reaching an estimated 12,000 people in a church that has almost 100 different ministries. “Everyone has different gifts,” says McPherson. “One of mine is the big mouth God gave me. I need to use it for His purposes.”
