Michael Shelley, longtime Christian broadcaster, executive vice president & general manager of NewLife Radio, and NRB board member, recently earned a Ph.D. in organizational leadership from Columbia International University, marking a significant milestone in his lifelong calling to help strengthen Christian radio.
“I am completely committed to the work of Christian communications and to the work of NRB,” he said. “My prayer is that I can share what I have learned—and continue to learn—with communicators here in the states and abroad!”
His latest academic pursuit is far more than a credential—it’s an investment in the future of Gospel-centered media. Through his studies, Shelley encountered leadership principles that deeply resonated with his biblical worldview, such as the concept of “the steward leader.”
“There’s an understanding that what I am leading ultimately doesn’t belong to me,” he said, “it belongs to God. He has entrusted me to steward all the resources for His good.”
Shelley’s dedication to stewarding both message and mission has long been evident through his work at NewLife Radio, where he leads with humility, vision, and a heart for impact. Under his leadership, the network has expanded its reach and influence, broadcasting Christ-centered, Bible-based programming to a growing audience.
Doug Doran, president of Life Radio Ministries, described Shelley as a uniquely qualified leader, having known him for many years through NRB Conventions.
“I’ve always respected his insight and professionalism,” Doran said. “When the time came to find a new general manager for NewLife Radio, Mike’s name quickly rose to the top. His background in academia, combined with his strong experience in leadership and management, made him a natural fit. I’m truly grateful to have Dr. Shelley as part of the NewLife Radio management team.”
Joe Emert, founder & chairman of Life Radio Ministries, said: “Dr. Shelley’s achievement is a reflection of his striving for excellence in everything he does. I am very proud of what God is doing through him and believe it will equip him with even better tools for effective ministry.”
As Christian communicators face new challenges and opportunities, Dr. Michael Shelley remains a steady voice and a faithful leader who is deepening his roots in scholarship so he can help others bear fruit in ministry.
