Membership Director

Position Description

Purpose:
This position provides strategic direction and leadership for the Membership Division to recruit, maintain, develop, and serve the association membership. This includes recruiting like-minded communications organizations and individuals, companies and individuals who provide services to NRB members, Christian colleges and universities, pastors, bloggers, and podcasters. The position supervises all Member Division staff. The position must clearly articulate, develop, and enhance the benefits of NRB membership. This position works to develop new revenue streams for NRB. The position works to improve NRB’s visibility and reach, and to cultivate and manage strategic alliances and partnerships. In addition to overseeing the membership department, the position focuses on retention, recruitment, and reactivation of top tier members and President’s Council members. The position develops the annual budget for the membership division. The position is responsible for developing and overseeing various programs including, but not limited to the Capitol Hill Media Summit, Leadership and Advisory Council Meetings, the awards programs, and academic exchanges. This position also oversees the Board and Officer and Standing Committee election processes each year at the annual convention. The position is responsible for liaison with members of the Board of Directors, Standing Committee Chairs, and Executive Committee.

Qualifications:
Education, Experience and Training
The ideal candidate will have: 1) a bachelor’s degree in marketing, public relations, communications, or a related field; and 2) a master’s degree in a related field; 3) membership in and certification by the American Society of Association Executives; and, 4) at least five years’ experience in a membership association, an educational institution, advertising, marketing, sales, or donor management.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
• Must be a strategic thinker and have a marketing mindset, and significant background and experience in a membership association.
• Must possess excellent organizational, interpersonal, motivational, negotiation, and oral and written communications skills; demonstrated critical thinking, project management; a high level of judgment, flexibility, and stress tolerance; and an energetic, creative, enthusiastic, and professional perspective on membership issues.
• Must be familiar with developing budgets.
• Must possess the ability to meet deadlines, negotiate conflicts, take initiative, prioritize, and multitask, assume project responsibility, negotiate contracts, work well independently, interact comfortably with the association’s membership, and develop a strong ethic of teamwork and motivation with staff and members.
• Must be a confident self-starter and servant-leader, able to work creatively and proactively to advance the work of the Membership Division and the overall mission of NRB.
• Must possess exceptional social media and computer skills.

Requirements:
The applicant should be a committed, well-established, mature Christian, and an active member of a local Evangelical church.

Primary Responsibilities:
Element 1 – Developing and Serving the Membership

• Continually develops strategies and programs to enhance membership.
• Responsible for the overall program for membership development.
• Communicates and continually improves and enhances membership value for current and potential members.
• Ensures a segmented member database that is accurate and current to communicate and maximize opportunities for members and NRB priorities.
• Focuses on top-tier member retention and recruitment.
• Works to develop interactive forums for members to plan future association-building activities, including the awards programs, academic exchange programs, and hosting other cost-effective educational events to provide opportunities for learning and networking and providing value to membership.
• Works closely with the Standing Committee members.
• Works to secure sponsors for membership events.

Element 2 – Staff Supervision

• Establishes guidelines and performance expectations for staff members; provides feedback and evaluates employee performance. Provides advice, counsel, and instruction to staff members.
• Develops work improvement plans as needed and recommends personnel actions accordingly.
• Ensures proper training of staff.
• Ensures an efficient and smooth-running office.

Element 3 – General

• To perform other duties, as assigned by the Executive Vice President, NRB.
• To perform all work with the highest ethical and moral standards, in compliance with all NRB internal policies and procedures.
• To strive to maintain a servant attitude toward co-workers, accepting them as Christ accepted you.

Membership Coordinator

Position Description

Purpose:
This position provides administrative, project and executive support for the membership department and serves to facilitate intra-and inter-organizational communication and cooperation; and provides support and customer care to the NRB membership and to prospective members. The position is responsible for managing and researching potential members and serves as the principal point of administrative contact and liaison with members.

Qualifications:
Education, Experience and Training
The ideal candidate will have 1) 5-10 years as an Executive Assistant, 2) a Bachelor’s degree in communications, marketing, or related field, or related experience in customer service.

Knowledge, Skills, Ability
• Must possess excellent organizational, interpersonal, oral and written communications skills, in particular telephone skills; demonstrated critical thinking, project management, and detail management skills; a high level of judgment, flexibility, and stress tolerance; and an energetic, creative, enthusiastic yet professional perspective on membership issues.
•Must possess the ability to meet deadlines, negotiate conflicts, take initiative, prioritize and multitask, assume project responsibility, work well independently, interact comfortably with the association’s membership, and develop a strong ethic of teamwork and motivation with staff and volunteers.
•Exceptional computer and database skills In Microsoft Office products, and experience with a membership management system is preferred, in particular Protech.

Requirements:
The applicant should be a committed, well-established, mature Christian, and an active member of a local Evangelical church.

Primary Responsibilities:
• Provide project and administrative support to the Director of Membership, keeping the director advised on an ongoing basis of all activities of the office, including schedules, status of projects, meetings, membership recruitment and retention activities, and budget for the office.
• Oversee all aspects of the schedule for the Membership Director, including meetings with members and prospective members.
• Oversee the day-to-day operations of the Membership Department in the office and at Convention, ensuring all activities are completed in a timely manner.
• Develop positive member relationships.
• Provide effective customer service to the membership.
• Collect and input data into the membership database.

General
• To perform other duties, as assigned by the Director of Membership.
