At the NRB Convention in Nashville, Michael Farris, NRB general counsel, joined Daniel Cohen on his Real Life Network show to discuss the status of NRB’s legal challenge of the Johnson Amendment and what it means for churches, as well as other NRB policy issues.

“The Johnson Amendment is a portion of the IRS code that has silenced pastors, churches, other nonprofits since 1954,” Farris said. “The ruling has been that you can’t say what you want to say about candidates. We’ve been litigating against that for almost two years now. The Trump administration has reached an agreement with us that they will relent on church services—other forms of nonprofits are still under the old rules. Church services will be able to say what they want to say. Pastors will be free in the pulpit to talk about candidates. … That’s the big prize on the table: when the power of God is unleashed through the pulpit, and they’re able to apply the word of God to every area of life.”

Troy A. Miller, NRB president & CEO, spoke with Dr. Zach Clinton on “Life, Love, Faith, and Family” at the NRB Convention about the rising demand for Christian media, the need to courageously stand against cancel culture, and the importance of leaving a faithful legacy.

“God is on the move, … and people are hungry,” Miller said. “I think we’re seeing a major rejection of secular philosophies and ideology across this country. … In a culture that really worships popularism, …will pastors in this time have the courage to brush off that marketing attitude that’s gotten into the church?”

Miller continued: “If there is no God, the question is then who defines good and evil. … We’ve seen so much weaponization by the government, but even more so by corporate America. … Be bold and courageous yourself. … We need your voice.”

While onsite, Miller discussed the NRB Convention and NRB’s current policy initiatives with Chris Meikel of Bott Radio.

“A big part of NRB is iron sharpening iron,” Miller said. “We keep track of all legislation coming out of the House or Senate and look at its impact on Christian communicators.  … We look at the same thing in the regulatory environment and of course on corporate America.”

Miller also discussed the need to preserve AM radio in the auto dash as well as how to keep content relevant for the rising generations: “It’s about access for the consumer, privacy for the consumer, and it also has to do with these public airways, which should be free and easy to access. … We tell Christian communicators that you have to have a broad approach to how you distribute your content today and how you’re going to reach people. You won’t be able to be in one single area.”

On Faith Radio, Miller sat down with Bob Crittenden at the NRB 2026 Convention in Nashville to discuss the annual event.

“There’s a lot of networking that goes on here,” Miller said. “We’re here for a common cause, to communicate the message of the Gospel to the public square.”

Miller discussed NRB’s training and equipping sessions: “[We discuss] what the legal landscape looks like, the regulatory landscape, culture, … and AI. We help equip people both from an information and knowledge level right down to hands-on skills.”

At the NRB Convention, Miller sat down with Gene Bailey on Flashpoint alongside Pastor Alan Jackson, Tony Suarez, and Lucas Miles to talk about Christian influence in public schools, media consumption by younger generations, and the need for courageous church leadership.

“We live in a propaganda industry today,” Miller said. “These younger generations consume media on demand. But we have a great opportunity because Christian broadcasters have about a sixty-six trust rate with the young generation. So, it really is up to us to have the courage to step up and address this.”

Miller continued: “Courage is the number one thing that we must have. We as pastors and Christian communicators, we can’t be afraid to break a few eggs. We can’t be afraid to not be popular. … Because we’re going to say truth into a culture that desperately needs to hear it. … It’s a battleground of ideas. … We have to have a lot more pastors that know they’re shepherds, and not think they’re CEOs of organizations.”

Miller joined Craig and Shelley Huey on “The Huey Alert” podcast about advocating for Christian communicators, combating cancel culture and tech censorship, and addressing apathy within the church.

“NRB is the largest association of Christian communicators,” Miller said, “and we’re advocating on their behalf. We’re out there making sure that whatever ministry God’s called you to do, you could do it in the public space.”

Miller continued: “Christians are cancelled, marginalized, have more bias against them on social platforms and all of these streaming distributions than any other group out there. … But I think one of the biggest threats…to us as a Christian community, as Christian communicators, is the apathy we have in the church. … If we just had Christians that stopped marginalizing themselves and got into the public square and lived out their faith, we’d…be an entirely different country.”
