On July 16, Troy A. Miller, President and CEO of the National Religious Broadcasters (NRB), joined hosts Evelyn Li and Kevin Hogan on “NTD Good Morning” to weigh in on the attempted assassination of former president Donald J. Trump and the perspective of evangelical voters.

“Early on in his candidacy, he [Trump] reached out to the evangelical community to find out what the community’s needs were,” Miller said. “He has really attempted to understand the important issues for this community, and that’s really resonated.”

Also on July 16, Miller spoke with Andrew Wilkow on his show for a deep-dive discussion into similar topics surrounding Trump and the status of Christianity in the United States.

“Christianity has been marginalized in this country,” Miller said, “[Christian] morals, values, and principles—those are the threats to what they’re trying to accomplish, to move the state into being god and not let people have their individual faith that they want to hold, whether it’s in Judaism, Christianity, Islam. The state wants to replace all that, because this is a Christian nation founded on those Christian principles.”

On July 17, Miller joined host Kelly Wright on “America’s Hope” also to speak about why conservative Christians remain loyal to former President Trump and how the shooting may have affected support for Trump.

“I think for the Republican Party, this attack has really solidified or unified the party,” Miller said, “and I think … a lot of people who were in the party and on the fence have crossed over.”

Trump. Watch Graham’s remarks here:

Following the shooting on July 13 in Butler, Pa., Miller issued the following statement:

“Yesterday, America witnessed an assassination attempt against 45th President Donald J. Trump and the senseless murder and wounding of his supporters on live television. We are grateful for God’s divine protection of President Trump, and we grieve with the family of the innocent individual who was killed.

“We condemn all acts of violence, and as media leaders, we warn in the strongest terms against the use of media to distort, dehumanize, or provide justification for violence against public figures or their supporters in any way.

“I ask all Christians to join me today in praying for the comfort and healing of the injured and bereaved of the July 13 shooting and the protection of all elected leaders and presidential candidates against violence and harm.”
