Troy A. Miller, president & CEO of the National Religious Broadcasters (NRB), joined “Washington Watch” to discuss the AM Radio for Every Vehicle Act with Jody Hice, Senior Vice President of Family Research Council (FRC). Miller explained why AM radio is vital for local listeners.

“The emergency response system has been built, for decades now, around AM radio,” Miller said. “AM has a unique frequency set that allows it to be able to broadcast even during storms. … One of the first things that goes down in these storms are the cell towers. … AM radio is where you’re going to depend to get your information.”

In the second installment of a two-part conversation, Miller joined host Dr. Ron Susek of FaithWalk TV in a discussion about the future of Christian broadcasting. Miller pointed out that though this cultural age is hostile to Christianity, it presents unparalleled opportunities to spread the Gospel:

“Media allows us to get to people where they are,” Miller said. “We want good Christian programming that’s preaching the Gospel and discipling the church, but also I would challenge everybody out there even in your own social media networks, to be using those networks to communicate the Gospel.”

Miller spoke with Dr. Jerry Newcombe of the Providence Forum about the spiritual state of the nation and how it may affect Christian political engagement.

“I think we’re at a crossroads right now,” Miller said. “There’s been a lot of discussion especially in the last few years about whether America is a post-Christian nation or not.”

Miller highlighted a recent finding that among Americans who identify themselves as Christian, there is a significant lack of interest in issues like government and politics, and that many churches neglected to encourage Christian to vote.

“We have to remember we’re not just voting for candidates; we’re voting for the policies that are going to drive the direction of this country as well,” Miller continued. “Over half of the pastors across this country didn’t even talk to their congregations about the importance of voting.”
