Joni Eareckson Tada Receiving Radiation Treatment

From January 3 until close to the last week of February, Joni Eareckson Tada will be receiving radiation treatment on a daily basis to fight against a fast-growing cancer.

In a blog post on December 29, Tada said she and her husband, Ken, chose to radiate a larger area beyond the tumor site because of the rate at which her cancer was spreading.

“Starting in the first part of January, they will be delivering the radiation every day for 7 weeks,” she reported.

One month earlier, Tada underwent surgery to remove the small cancerous tumor that was found over the site of her mastectomy from 2010, when she was battling stage 3 breast cancer.

As she was recovering from the surgery and waiting on pathology reports, Tada said she hoped that radiation wouldn’t be necessary “because my quadriplegic lungs are kind of weak.”

“That’s something that our viewers can pray about – the treatment that I’m going to have – that my poor quadriplegic lungs might not be further damaged,” she said in a November 28 Facebook Live interview with talk show host Susie Larson.

In her blog post last month, Tada said she and her husband “already experienced so many answers to prayer and want to express all the gratitude for your support during this time!”

“We invite you to join us in praying for all the professionals with whom we’ll come in contact during this… adventure, as Ken and I are calling it,” she continued. “We are so content being in the center of God’s will, our praises are constant, and Jesus is supporting us on wings of eagles, as in Isaiah 40. There is no doubt about it – Jesus is very near and dear!”

On January 2, Tada reported in a Facebook post that she received a call that day notifying her that the radiation treatment would start the next day.

“I am so grateful to have your prayers supporting us and the Lord guiding my way. I’ll keep you updated during this 7 weeks of radiation and God bless you for your intercessions,” she concluded.

As further information regarding Tada’s health is available, updates will be shared on the Joni and Friends blog and Facebook page.
