Dr. Jose Reyes, a former NRB member, went to be with the Lord in late October after a long-term illness.

“Dr. Reyes was an exemplary leader in Latin American Christian broadcasting across the globe,” said NRB President & CEO Troy A. Miller. “His legacy in ministry and Spanish language Christian communications continues to leave an impact on the next generation of Christian leaders.”

In 1964, Reyes began his ministry vocation by serving a small congregation in Rio Piedras, Puerto Rico. In 1967, Reyes’ first radio program aired during Holy Week from the local church. In 1968, Reyes was appointed to work at the Church of God of Prophecy international offices in Cleveland, Tennessee where he served as director of the Spanish speaking communications ministry, the Spanish Voice of Salvation. In this role, he broadcasted on more than 4,000 television and radio stations and reached as many as 50 million listeners and viewers while serving in several other posts in the ministry

Reyes was the founder of the international communications ministry Compartiend El Pan De Vida (Sharing the Word of Life), founder of the Christian Center Sharing the Word of Life (church), founder of the radio program La Voz de Salvación (The Voice of Salvation), and founder of the TV program Compartiendo el Pan de Vida (Sharing the Bread of Life).

He was also one of the founders of the NRB affiliate Ibero-American Confederation of Christian Communicators, COICOM, in 1992 in Santa Cruz, Bolivia. COICOM is a movement inspired by God which has the vision and mission to serve the church and the mass media of Ibero-America (Spanish speaking countries throughout the world) with a paradigm of unity, integrity, efficiency, and excellence. COICOM exists to equip, network, and mobilize the church and Christian communicators of Latin America to fulfill the Great Commission.

The annual conventions organized by COICOM are the only ones of their kind and dimension in Latin America, gathering thousands of Christian communicators and top Christian leaders from over twenty countries of Ibero-America. These conventions take place in different countries each year and are the ideal meeting place for Christian communicators, broadcasters of every type of media, businessmen, pastors, and leaders across the South American continent. COICOM conventions serve to equip, train, mobilize, motivate, and envision leaders to take the Gospel to the ends of the world.

Dr. Reyes was a member of the NRB Board of Directors from 2004-2013 and received the 1988 Hispanic Ministry Award and the 2013 Milestone Award, which recognizes members who have achieved 50+ years of exemplary service.
