Today marks the 48th anniversary of the Roe v. Wade decision legalizing abortion. As we mourn the millions of lives lost to the tragedy of abortion, NRB CEO Troy Miller sent an open letter to President Joe Biden this morning calling for him not to revoke the Mexico City Policy. On behalf of NRB members, who represent millions of Christian listeners, viewers, and readers, Miller urged President Biden to pursue pro-life policies in accordance with Biden’s Catholic faith.
In the letter, Miller writes:
“I am writing on behalf of the largest association of Christian communicators in the world – National Religious Broadcasters. We are earnestly praying for you and for your administration as you now lead our nation.
This letter is to express our extreme concern and opposition to your apparent decision to rescind the Mexico City Policy. According to Dr. Anthony Fauci, whom you appointed to represent you as head of the delegation to the World Health Organization, “President Biden will be revoking the ‘Mexico City Policy’ in the coming days as part of his broader commitment to protect women’s health and advance gender equality at home and around the world.”
As you know, President Ronald Reagan introduced this policy in 1984 to ban foreign nonprofits from performing or promoting abortions as a condition of receiving U.S. family planning aid. Under President Trump, the policy was reinstated and expanded. We also ask that you keep in place the rule that any organization that provides or refers patients for abortions is ineligible for Title X funding.
People of faith across the religious spectrum oppose federal funding for a practice that violates their conscience. As your Catholic faith teaches, every human being, from conception to natural death, is made in the image of God and is deserving of respect and dignity.
We appreciate your appeal to unity and your commitment to listen to people who may not have voted for you or who disagree with you on policy. Therefore, we implore you to reconsider this pending policy move and not use any federal taxpayer dollars to support abortion globally and ultimately subsidize the abortion industry. Abortion is an evil that many Americans abhor. These actions will not advance your stated goal of unity. We would welcome the opportunity to meet with you to discuss this and other policy matters.”
