NRB WARNS: HERE COMES NEW MEDIA CENSORSHIP

Manassas, VA – Yesterday, NRB expressed its sincere hope that Apple Inc. would choose free religious speech over political pressure and retain the Exodus International iTunes app. During the night, Apple apparently chose censorship, yet again. Previously, Apple banned the Manhattan Declaration app for its Biblical view of marriage.

"NRB is extremely disappointed that Apple has chosen to cater to the intolerant demands of a pressure group and has removed the Exodus International app," said Craig Parshall, NRB Sr. Vice President and General Counsel. "A great variety of apps are available in Apple's 'App Store,' and this app was not distasteful or mean-spirited in any way. In fact, its message represents the thought and teaching of mainstream evangelical Christianity and is thoroughly consistent with Christian orthodoxy. Free speech lost today, crushed in the iron grip of political correctness. We would expect this kind of viewpoint discrimination in Iran or China," continued Parshall, "but it is stunning to see it arrive on American shores."

NRB had anticipated the possible threat of censorship of religious free speech on new media platforms. "Last year," notes Parshall, "we launched our unique John Milton Project for Religious Free Speech. Our coalition of legal experts are examining the free speech practices and policies of the major web-based platforms: communication technology companies like Apple, as well as social networking sites like Facebook and Myspace, web search engines like Google, Twitter's messaging service, and telecommunication companies like Comcast, Verizon and AT&T. We will soon be reporting on our findings and our strategy for correcting the problems where we see them. But based on our preliminary findings we have very serious concerns about the future of religious free speech in 21st Century America."
