NRB HIGHLIGHTS THREATS TO FREE SPEECH & PRESSAT OPENING OF 68th ANNUAL CONVENTION & EXPOSITION

NASHVILLE, TN – Join us at 10:30 a.m. today, when the Executive Leadership of the National Religious Broadcasters (NRB) will officially open the 68th annual Convention & Exposition at a press conference in Governors Chamber D at the Gaylord Opryland Resort & Convention Center.

Dr. Frank Wright, NRB President & CEO, will discuss the current media landscape both domestically and globally. He will also highlight the legislative and regulatory landscape in Washington, D.C., discussing new NRB Board Resolutions related to specific pieces of legislation, as well as general Resolutions that highlight the philosophical direction of the association.

Bill Skelton, outgoing Chairman of NRB, will introduce the newly elected Chairman along with announcing the slate of new Board Members and Executive Committee Members. Skelton will also make a special announcement regarding NRB’s new Ben Armstrong Center for Media Freedom, and the establishment of the Billy Graham Award for Excellence in Christian Communications.

Craig Parshall, NRB Senior Vice President & General Counsel will address the legal landscape and potential threats against Christian communicators. He will specifically preview the findings of NRB’s John Milton Project for Religious Free Speech, which is examining the policies and practices of “new media” platforms like Facebook, Myspace, and Twitter, web applications like Apple’s iPhone apps, and the larger Internet service providers. Parshall will give a startling glimpse of the potential threat of viewpoint discrimination against Christian ideas on social networks and new media technology.
