Manassas, VA – KICY-AM/FM will receive the prestigious NRB Milestone Award during the March1st Banquet at the NRB Convention & Exposition.
“Just a year after Alaska become admitted into the Union, forward-thinking pastors founded KICY in the regional hub of Nome,” said NRB President & CEO Dr. Frank Wright. “More than five decades later, KICY’s signal still reaches Alaska and the Russian Far East with the life-giving words of the Gospel.”
On Easter Sunday, April 17th, 1960, KICY AM-850 signed on with the words, “Faith comes by hearing. And hearing by the Word of God.” This fulfilled the dream of connecting the many villages of arctic, Western Alaska with a radio station. Today, KICY is a commercial, Clear-Channel 50,000 watt facility with the only international license ever granted by the FCC, which provides KICY and the Covenant Church an amazingly powerful tool to share the Gospel with our Russian Brothers and Sisters. And they, in turn, have responded with great joy and appreciation.
Longevity in any field is becoming a rarity, and exemplary service in Christian broadcasting for 50 years—or more—is a feat worthy of recognition and applause. With the Milestone Award, NRB desires to honor the industry pioneers who brought Christian communications to the place of respect and achievement it enjoys today.
