Manassas, VA – First Baptist Church of Spartanburg, SC, will receive the prestigious NRB Milestone Award during the March 1st Banquet at the NRB Convention & Exposition.
“Fifty-five years ago, God honored the seeds planted by 120 men who were willing to give $2 a week to fund the television ministry at First Baptist Spartanburg,” said NRB President & CEO Dr. Frank Wright. “Starting from the original broadcast partnership with the local CBS affiliate, FBS’s media reach now spans the globe.”
In 1956 after 120 years of local ministry, First Baptist Church Spartanburg, South Carolina, reached out to the world through television. Over 50 years later, the broadcast ministry now includes live worship services, the teaching of Dr. Don Wilton through the national Encouraging Word broadcast, and a 24-hour hit radio station, 104.1FM -The Z. With hundreds of salvations each year, First Baptist Spartanburg continues to use broadcast and online media to reach Spartanburg and beyond with the Gospel of Christ.
Longevity in any field is becoming a rarity, and exemplary service in Christian broadcasting for 50 years—or more—is a feat worthy of recognition and applause. With the Milestone Award, NRB desires to honor the industry pioneers who brought Christian communications to the place of respect and achievement it enjoys today.
