Manassas, VA – Dr. Jose A. Reyes, Sr., will receive the prestigious NRB Milestone Award during the Awards Dinner on Tuesday, March 5, at the NRB 2013 Convention & Exposition.
The NRB Milestone Award is presented each year at the annual NRB Convention to pioneers in Christian communications who have demonstrated exemplary service in the industry for five decades or more. Last week, Dr. Reyes officially marked 50 years of communicating the redemption message through radio and television.
“For more than 50 years now, Jose has faithfully endeavored to reach Spanish-speaking communities through mass media," shared NRB President & CEO Dr. Frank Wright. “Furthermore, he has long been active in and supportive of the work and mission of NRB. I thank and commend him for all that he has done.”
Dr. Reyes began broadcasting his church’s services on the secular radio station WIAC on February 7, 1963. Five years later, the international office of the denomination he was working with asked him to move to Cleveland, TN, to start their international Spanish radio ministry. That ministry eventually expanded its reach throughout Latin America, Spain and Spanish speaking areas in the United States.
In 2008, Dr. Reyes established an interdenominational communications ministry and a new church. Today, Dr. Reyes is Founder and President of the nonprofit organization El Pan de Vida, Inc., a ministry that provides assistance to people in need of food and shelter in countries such as Cuba, the Dominican Republic, El Salvador, and several others, as well as Hispanic communities in the U.S. His radio and television programs, Compartiendo El Pan de Vida (Sharing the Bread of Life), are broadcast on more than 1,000 outlets world-wide and are known throughout the Spanish speaking world.
During his 50 years of service in the field of communications, Dr. Reyes has been used by God in establishing several organizations that would give support and encouragement to those involved in Christian communications in the Hispanic communities. Among these were the Hispanic National Religious Broadcasters (HNRB) and COICOM (the Association of Christian Communicators for Latin America and Spain).
Dr. Reyes has been a member of NRB for more than 40 years, and has served on the NRB Executive Committee. He is also now in his 20th year of service on the NRB Board of Directors. Furthermore, he has served in several very influential organizations that serve the Latin American community in the United States, such as Esperanza USA, AMEN, NOAH, and COMHINA, among others.
