Naghmeh Abedini, the wife of Pastor Saeed Abedini, is scheduled to speak during the worship service at the NRB 2014 International Christian Media Convention in Nashville, TN, on Sunday, February 23, 2014.
Since Pastor Abedini’s arrest last year, Naghmeh has worked together with NRB member organization ACLJ to gather support for her husband by speaking before churches, the news media, U.S. Congress, and even the United Nations. The tireless efforts of Naghmeh and the ACLJ have led to international publicity on Pastor Abedini’s case, involvement by national and international legislators, and a widespread prayer movement in the Christian community. Through the ACLJ, NRB was able to confirm Naghmeh’s participation at NRB 2014.
“We are honored to have Mrs. Abedini join us at NRB 2014 and hope to draw more attention to the plight of her husband, who has been imprisoned now for more than a year because of his Christian beliefs,” noted NRB President & CEO Dr. Jerry A. Johnson.
Pastor Abedini was arrested by Iranian authorities last September for allegedly being a threat to Iran’s national security, and has since been subjected to severe interrogations, periods of solitary confinement, and physical assault.
Last month, Pastor Abedini was abruptly transferred from the notorious Evin Prison in Tehran to Rajai Shahr Prison in Karaj – an even more dangerous prison where he faces life-threatening conditions and treatment.
Naghmeh Abedini, an Idaho resident and mother of two, has testified before Congress on her husband’s worsening plight, noting how “any day could be execution day.”
“Each day he remains in that dreadful place (Rajaï Shahr prison) could mean a death sentence,” she stated.
NRB has sent a letter to Secretary of State John Kerry requesting his intervention on behalf of Pastor Abedini. More specifically, NRB has asked the U.S. State Department to work for the immediate release of Pastor Abedini and his safe passage back home to the United States.
