In October 2011, the FCC reversed hundreds of exemptions that had been granted primarily to Christian TV stations and programmers (most of them non-NRB members) which had previously relieved them of the obligation to “close caption” their programs. As a public service to the Christian television community, on December 1st, NRB’s General Counsel Craig Parshall and NRB Board Member attorney Joseph Chautin co-hosted an informational teleconference designed to explain the FCC ruling and give encouragement to television ministries as they decided whether to file for a new exemption, or to begin closed captioning by the new broadcast TV deadline of January 19, 2012.
