Tens of thousands of Christians from across the country will gather at the Independence Mall in Philadelphia this weekend to pray for the healing of our nation 40 days before voters head to the polls for the 2012 presidential election.
The event, “America for Jesus: The Awakening Philadelphia,” is part of an effort being organized by One Nation Under God, a coalition of ministries that has been responsible for a number of successful faith-based public events, including Washington for Jesus 1980 and The Assembly in 2007.
“America’s soul is sick, but I believe America still has a chance,” says Bishop Anne Gimenez, Senior Pastor of Rock Church International in Virginia Beach, VA, and Chairman of AFJ 2012. “I believe in resurrection, and I believe prayer changes things – and that is what we intend to do. It’s not about who will be in the White House nor our current financial crisis; it’s about America needing the presence of God.”
In addition to the prayer event, America for Jesus has organized “Love Philadelphia,” a humanitarian outreach to the poor and needy throughout the city. Also part of the effort is a three-day conference that will address current events and issues pertaining to the Church.
Leaders behind America for Jesus include Dr. Jim Garlow of Skyline Wesleyan Church; Tom Phillips of the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association; Bishop Harry Jackson of the High Impact Leadership Coalition; Ron Luce of Teen Mania Ministries; Dr. Paul Cedar of Mission America Coalition; and many more.
