Study Shows Power of Radio for Musicians

Microphone with moneyIn advance of a House Judiciary Committee hearing this week on music licensing rules, a new study conducted by Nielsen showed a strong correlation between radio airplay and music sales.  Indeed, the report, which examined over-the-air radio, on-demand streaming, satellite radio, and music video, concluded, “Results indicate that radio is more highly correlated with song sales than any metric studied.” 

Dennis Wharton, Executive Vice President of Communications at the National Association of Broadcasters, which commissioned the study, stated, "This study highlights clearly the enormous value that radio airplay provides in promoting music and generating music sales. Local radio remains the premiere platform for exposing new music and generating sales for record labels."
