State of the Union Address Set for Tuesday

Next Tuesday, President Obama will give the first “State of the Union” address of his second presidential term. While the subjects of immigration and guns are almost sure to be part of the speech, Members of Congress and many others will be carefully listening for other domestic and international agenda items the President highlights.  In his formal letter of invitation to the President to give the State of the Union address at the Capitol, House Speaker John Boehner (R-OH) declared, “Our nation continues to face immense challenges, and the American people expect us to work together… For that reason, the Congress and the Nation would welcome an opportunity to hear your plan and specific solutions for addressing America’s great challenges.”  Senator Marco Rubio (R-FL) has been selected by Speaker Boehner and Senate GOP Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) to give the Republican address following the President’s State of the Union.
