SRN’s Hackel Dies in Israel

Dan HackelSalem Radio Network (SRN) Vice President of News & Talk Programming Tom Tradup broke the sad news to SRN staff this week, sending out a note about the passing of Dan Hackel, SRN news correspondent in Israel. Tradup said, “Dan passed away on his birthday shortly after two of his sons, his daughter-in-law and his beloved wife Judy sang ‘Happy Birthday’ to him and served him cake." Dan was 75 and had been battling cancer.

In addition to his work for SRN, Dan's national broadcast credentials include his tenure as a founding anchor for CNN International and a frequent anchor on Headline News. He served as a Washington correspondent covering the White House for ABC News, and he reported on the U.S. Congress for the Mutual Broadcasting System. He grew up in Jacksonville, FL, and—in addition to anchoring local TV news in that market—Dan was also a Visiting Associate Professor at University of North Florida and former Chair of the School of Film & Video at Miami-Dade Community College.
