Spectrum Inventory Bill Back In Senate

Senator Olympia Snowe (R-ME) has re-introduced the Radio Spectrum Inventory Act (S.3433) calling for a comprehensive accounting of America’s electromagnetic spectrum.

Senator Snowe, a member of the Senate Commerce Committee, believes more must be done to meet current and future spectrum needs: “This includes a comprehensive spectrum inventory, more strategic and long-term planning of spectrum resources, and greater collaboration between the FCC and NTIA.” Senator Mark Warner (D-VA), who is partnering with Senator Snowe on this legislation, added, “…spectrum is a limited resource, and we need a comprehensive inventory of spectrum to better assess how we are using it.”

This legislation would also establish a publicly accessible and searchable website with spectrum and license information. Similar legislation stalled in the Senate in 2009.
