Congressman John Dingell (D-MI) today made history. The 86-year-old legislator, representing Michigan’s 12th District, today became the longest serving Member of Congress in U.S. history, surpassing the record of the late Senator Robert C. Byrd (D-WV). Rep. Dingell, who earlier in his career held the reins of the powerful House Energy & Commerce Committee, has now served 57 years, 5 months, 26 days.
