NRB President Dr. Jerry A. Johnson to Pray at Movieguide Awards

Dr. Jerry JohnsonNRB President & CEO Dr. Jerry A. Johnson will deliver the opening prayer for the 22nd Annual Movieguide Awards this weekend.

Each year, not far removed from Oscar night, Movieguide hosts its annual Awards Gala, where it celebrates and honors outstanding filmmakers and entertainment executives who develop positive, ethical, and morally-balanced films and television productions. Some of the top honors given away each year include the “Best of the Year” awards for family and mature movies; the Grace Award for Inspiring Acting; The Faith & Freedom Awards; the $50,000 Kairos Prize for Spiritually Uplifting Screenplays from Beginning and First-Time Screenwriters and the $50,000 Chronos Prize for Spiritually Uplifting Screenplays from Established Filmmakers (both supported by grants from the John Templeton Foundation); and the celebrated $100,000 Epiphany Prizes for Inspiring Movies & for TV.

“Movieguide is thrilled to have Dr. Johnson be a part of this unique evening that celebrates faith and values in Hollywood movies,” expressed Movieguide’s Founder and Publisher, Dr. Ted Baehr, who is also a member of NRB’s Board of Directors and Chairman of its Film Standing Committee.

Adding to that, Dr. Johnson said, “It is an honor and a privilege to take part in this special event, which recognizes and supports productions that play positive roles in society and do more than entertain. I pray the rest of Hollywood takes note.”

This year, the Gala will be held in Universal City, CA, on Friday, February 7 – about a month before the Oscars. Hosting the event will be television personality and Blue Collar Comedy star Bill Engvall. Award presenters include Roma Downey, Mark Burnett, Andy Garcia, Cory Oliver, Ali Landry, Holly Robinson, Rodney Peete, Susan Ward, and Corbin Bernsen, among others. The Gala will also feature the presentation of Movieguide’s Annual Report to the Entertainment Industry, a comprehensive financial analysis of the movie business showing what kinds of movies and what kinds of movie content moviegoers favor the most with their hard-earned money.

The Movieguide Awards are by invitation only and are extended to honorees and industry professionals. The Gala will air on REELZ on Saturday, March 1, at 2:00 p.m. ET, with an additional broadcast on Oscar Day, Sunday, March 2, at 2:00 p.m. ET.
