Nation Prepares to Remember D-Day

June 6th will mark the 70th anniversary of the D-Day landing of Allied forces in Normandy, France.  Leaders from around the nation and the world will honor this pivotal day in the struggle for freedom against tyranny.  Notably, U.S. President Barack Obama, the United Kingdom’s Queen Elizabeth, French President François Hollande, Russian President Vladimir Putin, and German Chancellor Angela Merkel will all be among those world leaders in France for the remembrance.

On June 6, 1944, U.S. President Franklin Roosevelt’s public prayer, which some Senators are seeking to get inscribed on the World War II Memorial in Washington, DC, began, “Almighty God: Our sons, pride of our nation, this day have set upon a mighty endeavor, a struggle to preserve our Republic, our religion, and our civilization, and to set free a suffering humanity. Lead them straight and true; give strength to their arms, stoutness to their hearts, steadfastness in their faith. They will need Thy blessings.”
