More of The Light In Knoxville

106.9 The LightDr. Billy Graham and his wife, Ruth, founded Blue Ridge Broadcasting (BRB) in 1962, purchasing BRB’s flagship station, 106.9 The Light (WMIT, Black Mountain, NC), in 1963. Today, The Light covers 42,000 square miles with the twelfth largest FM coverage area in the whole United States, and they’re about to get bigger. For the first time in 48 years, Blue Ridge Broadcasting has entered into an agreement to acquire WRJK-FM (Norris, TN), pending approval by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC). Broadcasting on 106.7 MhZ with a power of 1.1kW, WRJK-FM’s antenna sits 751 feet above the average terrain in northern Knox County, TN.

“BRB is blessed to serve a large, growing group of northeast Tennessee via 106.9 The Light,” says Jim Kirkland, Executive Director of BRB. “We’re excited about the opportunity to now extend our ministry outreach into metro Knoxville.”

This move is not without significance. “Knoxville is a city for which the Graham association has long carried warm regards,” added Kirkland. BRB notes that “both Billy Graham and his son Franklin held well-received events in the city. Dr. Graham led a 1970 crusade at the University of Tennessee’s Neyland Stadium. In 2008, Franklin Graham hosted a similar event at UT’s Thompson-Boling Arena.”
