Joni Eareckson Tada Honored

Joni Eareckson TadaJoni Eareckson Tada, the founder and CEO of Joni and Friends International Disability Center, has been named the recipient of the Wilberforce Award from BreakPoint and The Chuck Colson Center for Christian Worldview. The award was named after the British parliamentarian William Wilberforce who successfully abolished slavery in Great Britain after 26 years of advocacy.

Chuck Colson, the host of the BreakPoint radio program, said that Joni was chosen for the award because of her devotion to fighting social injustice and transforming culture, much like Wilberforce. "She is a defiant, inspirational, joy-filled rebuttal to those who would assault the sanctity of human life," Colson said.

Rich Bott, Ken Tada, Joni Eareckson Tada, and Dr. Frank Wright"When I look at the list of previous recipients of the Wilberforce Award, I am awed and humbled to be in their company," Joni said. "They are senators and congressmen, doctors and bishops and ambassadors. I am overwhelmed to be included in their number, but am grateful for any recognition that helps further our work at Joni and Friends and the promotion of the biblical worldview."

Joni was also recently honored with the prestigious NRB Hall of Fame Award at the NRB 2012 Convention & Exposition for her invaluable contribution to the field of Christian communications, exhibition of the highest standards, and evidence of faithfulness in Christ.
