In Memoriam: Carol Garlow, Wife and Ministry Partner of Dr. Jim Garlow

Carol GarlowDr. Jim Garlow, Senior Pastor of Skyline Wesleyan Church in San Diego, CA, and Host of The Garlow Perspective, announced Sunday that his wife and partner in ministry, Carol, had entered the Lord's presence after a more than five-year battle with cancer.

"[Forty-two] years ago, we ended our wedding vows with the words '... until one of us shall place the other in the arms of God.' I just did that," he shared Sunday afternoon in a brief web update.

Shortly thereafter, Dr. Garlow and his family were blanketed with prayers from around the country.

“Our hearts join Jim’s and the tremendous number of others who are mourning the death of Carol Garlow," commented Alliance Defending Freedom President, CEO, and General Counsel Alan Sears. "Her unwavering faith and perseverance was an example to many. She loved God, was a pillar of strength for her husband, and had an immense impact, including upon those of us who have worked closely with the Garlows in support of religious freedom. Our prayers are with Jim and the entire Garlow family.”

Peggy Campbell of Ambassador Advertising Agency noted how Carol "'ran the race' like few do – brave to the final days God gave her on earth, bold in her confessions of faith." 

"We give thanks she is now with so many who have preceded her who undoubtedly welcomed her arrival – some having just entered the celestial city themselves. And we give thanks that her trust in Him is now rewarded fully," Campbell expressed. "But we grieve with her beloved husband who is now without his life partner of more than four decades. As [a] pastor, communicator, writer, speaker, broadcaster, advocate for the biblical worldview ... it is hard to imagine Jim being able to fulfill these callings without Carol at his side."

In a personal letter to Dr. Garlow, NRB President & CEO Dr. Frank Wright offered his sincerest sympathies and prayers.

“May the everlasting arms of Jesus hold you close, even as He is safely holding Carol now!” Dr. Wright wrote.

A memorial service for Carol has been scheduled for May 3 in the auditorium of Skyline Church. The night before, there will be visitation in the church's atrium. On Saturday morning, there will be a private burial.

In lieu of flowers, the Garlow family requests that funds be sent to the “Carol Garlow Memorial Fund” to be used for the East County Transitional Living Center, a ministry that has blessed the Garlow family. The ministry takes persons from the brokenness of life situations and makes them into godly men and women.

"As one might expect, Jim and the Garlow family are in deep and profound grief," shared a Skyline Church representative. "However they are so very grateful for the prayers of all of you which sustain them during this time."

For more than a decade, Garlow has served as Senior Pastor of the historic Skyline Church. He is also heard daily on more than 800 radio outlets nationwide in his one-minute historical commentary called The Garlow Perspective. He and Carol have four children and five grandsons.
