Hundreds Joining “America for Jesus” Prayer Force

America For JesusForty days before the citizens of America head to the polls, Christians from across the nation will meet Sept. 28-29 to pray for the nation at this critical time in its history.

America for Jesus: The Awakening Philadelphia,” or America for Jesus (AFJ) 2012, is being organized by One Nation Under God, a coalition of ministries that has been responsible for a number of successful faith-based public events, including Washington for Jesus 1980 and The Assembly in 2007.

“We believe this will be another historic gathering in our nation as we humble ourselves personally and corporately before God, seek His face, pray and repent for our sins,” say organizers of the event.

Notably, Philadelphia was the first capital of the United States and was the site of the signing of the Declaration of Independence, the adoption of the Constitution and the drafting of the Bill of Rights. It was also one of the centers of the Great Awakening of the 1730s, a period of spiritual revival in the country.

“What better place to gather in humility and repentance, seeking the Lord to once again bring revival to His Church and awakening to our nation?” pose AFJ organizers.

In preparation for the event, AFJ organizers are encouraging supporters of the cause to join the AFJ Prayer Force.  Those who join will receive a weekly prayer encounter and prayer focus, along with updates and resources.

“America’s soul is sick, but I believe America still has a chance,” says Bishop Anne Gimenez, senior pastor of Rock Church International in Virginia Beach, VA, and chairman of AFJ 2012.  “I believe in resurrection, and I believe prayer changes things – and that is what we intend to do.  It’s not about who will be in the White House nor our current financial crisis; it’s about America needing the presence of God.”

Speakers lined up for the Sept. 28-29 prayer event at the Independence Mall in Philadelphia include, among others: Dr. Jim Garlow, Senior Pastor of Skyline Wesleyan Church in San Diego, CA; Bishop Harry Jackson, Senior Pastor of Hope Christian Church in Beltsville, MD; Ron Luce, Founder and President of Teen Mania Ministries; Jane Hansen Hoyt, President of Aglow International; Rev. Samuel Rodriguez, President of the National Hispanic Christian Leadership Conference; Rev. Luis Cortes, Jr., President and CEO of Esperanza; Lou Engle, Co-Founder of TheCall;  and Dr. Paul Cedar, Chair and CEO of the Mission America Coalition.

In addition to the Solemn Assembly prayer event, America for Jesus will host a youth rally; AwakeNow, a conference on critical issues facing America; and Love Philadelphia, an outreach to the city.
