House Panel Wants Input on #AskWheeler

FCC Chairman Tom Wheeler has set the stage for a busy hearing when he sits as the sole witness before the House Communications & Technology Subcommittee next week. Yesterday, in two partisan 3-2 votes, the FCC advanced a new “net neutrality” proceeding and an order to launch the upcoming incentive auction of broadcast TV spectrum.  Internet governance, in particular, will be hot on the minds of House members, particularly as several have been sparring over whether or not the Internet should be reclassified as a Title II telecommunications “common carrier” service. Other likely topics include FCC process reform, broadcast sharing arrangements, and ideas for updating the Communications Act.  Moreover, likely in light of the wide interest in (and open protests at) this week’s FCC Open Meeting, the House committee has asked for input from the American public on what to talk about by posting online via Twitter and Facebook at #AskWheeler.  The hearing is set for next Tuesday, May 20, at 10:30 a.m. and will be live-streamed here.
