Highly Touted Bible Docu-Drama to Air on the History Channel; Sneak Peek at NRB 2013

The BibleChristian leaders from across the spectrum, including a number from the NRB family, have been touting The Bible – an epic five-week, 10-part television miniseries that will premiere next month on the History Channel and make a special appearance during the NRB 2013 Convention & Exposition.

"Mark Burnett and Roma Downey's mini-series The Bible is an unqualified success," commented NRB President & CEO Dr. Frank Wright. “It rises above its forebears, shining with cinematic artistry, dramatic creativity, and essential biblical fidelity.”

For two hours each Sunday night, starting on March 3, millions of viewers will see the Bible come to life in a way never before seen – with two episodes airing each week. Behind the series are highly-acclaimed producer Mark Burnett (The Voice, Survivor, The Apprentice) and his wife, Roma Downey (Touched by An Angel), who have brought the most widely-read book of all time to life on the screen.

More than a documentary, this docu-drama features powerful performances, dramatic live action, cutting-edge CGI technology, and dazzling visual effects. Filmed on site in the Middle East and Morocco, The Bible breathes spectacular life into the dramatic tales of faith and courage from Genesis through Revelation. Included are the stories of Noah, Moses, David, Daniel, and, of course, Jesus, among others. The final episode of the miniseries will air on Easter Sunday and will feature the death and resurrection of Christ.

“Rather than a word-for-word documentary, this project combines drama and history in a way that captures the essence and heart of the Gospel and the broader biblical story,” noted Focus on the Family President Jim Daly.  “I’m convinced that The Bible represents a unique opportunity to convey God’s redemptive message to a broad audience – many of whom may be unfamiliar with the narrative of Scripture. My prayer is that many lives will be impacted not only by the beauty and quality of the production, but by the Truth that lies at the center of the story.”

To help ensure the accuracy of the miniseries, many Christian scholars were brought on board to serve as advisors and input was received from hundreds of Christian leaders, many of whom have given their endorsement for the miniseries.

“We’ve assembled a team of over 40 faith leaders, scholars and theologians to help us portray this series in the true spirit that the sacred text was written,” commented Burnett, referring to the project’s advisors.

“[The series] takes you into the heart of the great stories of the Bible and really paints the grand narrative of God’s love for all of us,” he added.

Below is a chart showing a summary of what is included in each episode from The Bible as they are scheduled to air on the History Channel. Lifetime will also show episodes on Monday nights.

During the NRB 2013 Convention, there will be a special sneak peek at this breakthrough series Saturday evening, as well as a special guest appearance by actor Diogo Morgado, who portrays Jesus in The Bible.
