Galcom Celebrates Assembly of One Million 'Go-Ye' Radios

Galcom RadioLast week, Galcom International celebrated the assembly of its one millionth solar fix-tuned “Go-Ye” radio, which was part of an order destined for Greenland and tuned to a network of Christian radio stations covering 90% of the population.

For nearly 25 years, Galcom has produced “Go-Ye” solar radios, fix-tuned to Christian radio stations worldwide for exclusive listening to the Gospel. The first 40,000 radios were fix-tuned to an AM station broadcasting from Lebanon, and were sent into Syria, Lebanon, and Jordan.

Today, through partnerships with more than 300 mission groups and pastors, Galcom has distributed the radios in nearly 140 countries worldwide, giving millions of people the ability to hear God’s Word daily. On average, each radio is listened to by 10 people, according to Galcom. Radios are tuned to any frequency on the dial at the request of partnering mission agencies or churches. They’ve allowed those who can’t travel overseas to send a pocket-sized missionary in their place, and they’ve greatly multiplied the impact of missionary outreach.

”All glory and honor belong to Jesus Christ as He is the Founder, Director, and Provider of the Galcom ministry,” shared the Rev. Tim Whitehead, Galcom’s Executive Director. “Please join us in a prayer of thanksgiving for God’s grace in enabling us to reach the one million mark in radio production.”

On August 15, Galcom will mark its 25th anniversary. In 1988, God gave three men in different circumstances the desire to bring His message of salvation and love to unreached people through radio. Two of the co-founders, Ken Crowell and Harold Kent, are now with the Lord. The third, Allan McGuirl, now serves as International Director Emeritus.

Last Monday, June 16, McGuirl joined the production team in the assembly of Galcom’s one millionth radio, which will be placed in Galcom’s hall of fame as a reminder of God’s faithfulness and provision over 25 years of ministry. It will also be placed in honor of Galcom’s two other co-founders.

Kent passed away this past January following a long illness and Crowell passed away two years earlier.
