NRB Stands with Abedini and Israel, Opposes Iran Nuclear Proposal

Manassas, VA– National Religious Broadcasters, which represents outlets reaching 60 million viewers and listeners, today urged the United States Congress to uphold America’s long solidarity with Israel, as well as its commitment to the just treatment of its own citizens abroad, by rejecting the proposed nuclear agreement with Iran.

“During the violence of last summer, I joined several Christian media and ministry leaders in visiting the land, the people, and the leadership of Israel to show them, their friends, and their enemies that we support Israel’s right to exist and defend themselves,” stated Dr. Jerry A. Johnson, President & CEO of NRB. “I urge Members of Congress to stand for that principle and to oppose the agreement with Iran pending before them.”

He added, “Israel shares a special relationship with the United States. Both nations are firmly committed to freedom and to democratic governance.  Both seek to respect the rule of law and the rights of minorities. The same cannot be said of Iran.”

Earlier this year, the NRB Board of Directors unanimously approved a formal Resolution, calling “on the United States to continue to stand steadfast by Israel in its time of need.” Speaking about the Resolution, Dr. Johnson explained, “This is their time of need. While there are other strategic reasons to oppose the Iran deal, it is clear that Israel’s government sees the current proposal as a major security threat. The United States should stand with our ally.” (The full text of the NRB Resolution is available online here.)

NRB also continues to call for the release and safe return of Pastor Saeed Abedini, who remains unjustly incarcerated in Iran.

Dr. Johnson declared, “Pastor Saeed Abedini is a U.S. citizen and he is imprisoned simply because the Iranian regime finds his faith in the Lord Jesus Christ to be offensive. Members of Congress should need no other reason to reject this deal than that it leaves Pastor Abedini and several other Americans behind.”
